Vegan Apple Crisp

My two loves--oatmeal and apples, with cinnamon and nutmeg. YUM! Apple crisps are so easy to make and this is a lovely, straightforward recipe. The only time consuming part is cutting the apples. I also added my new favorite food obsession--mace. For some reason mace has rather gone out of fashion. But I love it. It is the outer husk of the nutmeg ans has a similar but milder taste. It's really quite delicious and fun to experiment with. You can use it in any recipe that calls for nutmeg. It's also used in a lot of savory recipes from the 18th century.

Serve this with vegan vanilla ice cream because the contrast of warm apple crisp and cold ice cream is sublime.

  1. I wish I was having that for dessert tonight! I didn't know mace was related to nutmeg; it sounds very Olde English!
