TWD: Baking with Julia -- White Loaves

I've joined the new Tuesdays with Dorie group and we're baking from a book that I love: Baking with Julia. It's a neat book because the recipes are from a bunch of different bakers, and there are yeast bread and other savory recipes. Bread is my favorite thing to bake so this is a good book for me.

Our first recipe was white loaves. The recipe was simple to follow and the bread turned out beautifully. I haven't made a plain white bread in a long time, and this recipe was easy and also totally delicious. This is a nice bread for toast and for sandwiches. The interior is moist and soft and the exterior is crunchy, though it softens a bit as the bread sits out for awhile.

If you're new to baking bread, this would be a good recipe to start with as the instructions are very thorough.

Please visit the hosts--Laurie and Jules--to see how their bread turned out and to get the recipe if you're interested.

**It was easy to make this bread vegan just by using the non-dairy version of the butter.

  7. Your loaf looks absolutely perfect. I think this was a great starter recipe too (even for the yeast-phobic).
