Fresh Strawberry Tart

Strawberry season is here and we've been taking full advantage of all the lovely locally grown berries. I'd never made a baked strawberry pie before, but after spotting a few recipes online, I wanted to try.

The pie was realy good with a gooey strawberry filling that wasn't too sweet, and a nice flaky crust. I made a free-form tart instead of using a pie pan--less dishes to wash. Here's the recipe I used for the filling. I didn't make the topping, but instead served the pie with a bit of whipped cream. The crust was some of Martha Stewart's Pate Sucree that I had in the freezer.

  1. We were told here in Montreal that our very first strawberries were out 1 week earlier this year. Today...I had a chance to go to a nearby market. Yes, strawberries were out...but boy were they tart!
I'm afraid that I'll have to be more patient about making any strawberry based recipe.
I'll keep yours in mind for later.
Thanks for sharing and flavourful wishes, Claudia

  2. That looks great. I've been eating a ton of non-local strawberries lately. I don't know where they're from, but they're delicious. Just a few more weeks until the local ones are ready.

  3. That looks delicious, Michele. I have some tiny French strawberries growing in the garden, but I don't think it's enough for this lovely tart.
