Daring Bakers

The September 2009 Daring Bakers' Challenge has been chosen by Steph of a whisk and a spoon. Steph chose Vols-au-Vent, which we are pretty sure in French means, “After one bite we could die and go to heaven!”

I've made puff pastry before, so that part of the challenge didn't worry me; but I was worried about the cutting and assembling the vols-au-vent. I am not good at delicate baking techniques. Fortunately though, this is a really good recipe to use and my little pastries came out fine, except for being rather crooked.

I used lemon custard for the filling, topped with strawberries and powdered sugar. All together they were quite wonderful and reminded me of the fancy pants desserts you see at really expensive hotel brunches. Yum!

Please see the other glorious vols-au-vent ceations at The Daring Kitchen.

  1. These look great, but you know I love seeing all the desserts you make even if I don't eat them. :)
