This week for SMS we made Hazelnut Truffles, chosen by Annie of Living Foodcariously. Truffles are actually quite easy to make--it just takes a bit of time to form and roll each truffle. I've tried several different recipes, and I think Melissa's recipe is a big winner. It is very straightforward and you only need a few ingredients. Also, you are able to mix and match flavors and coatings if you want to use something other than hazelnuts.
I do like hazelnuts but they're not a particular favorite. So instead, I used orange oil for the flavoring, and walnuts for the filling. I coated the truffles in a few different things--walnuts, sprinkles, coconut, and a cocoa powder cinnamon mixture. Each version was delicious, and that's one of the reason I love this recipe--you're able to be creative.
Please see Annie's blog to get the recipe and view her gorgeous truffles. http://foodcarious.blogspot.com/2009/08/hazelnut-truffles-sms.html

Update: I seem to be doing okay as far as cooking-baking is concerned, just as long as I don't have to stand for any great length of time. The pain pills help, and I do feel better finally having a proper diagnosis. So... I think I can keep posting here and there, at least for the next week or so. Thank you for all your support. I really appreciate it!

Good to hear from you Michele.
ReplyDeleteAnd the SMS truffles look delightful, just what this girl wants after a long day from work!
I like how you used different coatings. These look great.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself!
Oh Michele, I'm so sorry to hear about your recent health scare. I just read your post about your truffles (which came out fabulous, by the way) and then scrolled down to see what you were talking about. I hope you are on the mend ASAP- you will be in my thoughts and prayers!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand if you're unable to bake with me this week (it's my turn to host)- please don't push yourself too hard in the kitchen! Put your feet up and RELAX! I wish I could bake this week's recipe Apple Banana Bread, and bring it over to your house. I have no idea where you live though, and it very well might be a long drive (or even flight for that matter) from Boston! Well, please know that if you were close by, I'd be at your doorstep with a quickbread and a hug!
I truly hope you start to feel better soon! Keep us updated, if you can!
-Joy

ReplyDeleteYour truffles look great! Love the different coatings!
ReplyDeleteAs you have said, making truffles at home is really easy... so I wondered many times how can cake shops charge them as if they were selling gold!
ReplyDeleteI told ya in Flickr that the best coating is the coloured sugar!
I LOVE the rainbow candied truffle. All of them look amazing.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon!
I love your truffles! Sprinkles are always a big hit in our house.
