Tuesdays with Dorie - Chocolate Armagnac Cake

This week we made Dorie's Chocolate Armagnac cake. It's a very dense, near flourless cake flavored with prunes and armagnac. The recipe calls for a chocolate glaze which I omitted. I instead just used a bit of powdered sugar, some chestnut cream, and a few whole chestnuts as a topping. I also substituted brandy for the armagnac, and raisins for the prunes. If you are a chocolate lover, this cake is for you. I think it tastes like a dark chocolate pudding-very moist. Dave loved this cake; I think is was his favorite TWD recipe so far.

Nest week we are making something without chocolate. Yeah! Not being a chocolate lover I am bit burned out on all the rich chocolate-y desserts I've made lately. Thank goodness Dave never tires of sweets...
Please check out this week's host blog, "and then I do the dishes".
Also, check out some of the other very talented TWD bakers!

  1. Before I even started reading, I thought "another chocolate cake." Even I'm getting tired of them and I'm not cooking them or eating them. I'm glad that you will be able to try something new next week. And I'm glad that you have Dave to enjoy all your creations. Looks like you did a great job.

  2. Sorry to say I do not like prunes, but the picture is amazing. :)

  3. Thanks, you guys! I think the next 3 or 4 weeks are chocolate-free. Good thing as I can't even stand the smell of chocolate right now.

  4. Your cake looks great! I wish I'd skipped the glaze as it was the worst part of the cake for me. I, too, am looking forward to some chocolate-free TWD recipes.
