Tuesdays with Dorie - Devils Food White-out Cake

This weeks Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is a big old-fashioned devils food cake. It's a nice moist cake with a deep, not too sweet chocolate taste. It's relatively easy to make, but rather time consuming.

The original recipe calls for a meringue type marshmallow-y frosting. Though I'm sure it's a delicious frosting, Dave and I are not huge meringue fans. Instead, I just made a simple butter cream frosting. Dorie decorated her cake by crumbling up one of the cake layers and using the crumbs. I thought it would be so pretty to have a four layer cake, so I just used some toasted coconut as decoration.

This was a nice, big fudgy cake that makes many servings. It would be great for a birthday party or other celebration.

Please see this weeks host blog, Confessions of a City Eater. You can find the recipe there. http://confessionsofcityeater.blogspot.com/2009/02/twd-devils-food-white-out-cake.html
