I love fresh grated coconut but it is such a huge ordeal to get the meat from the shell. It takes power tools and sharp knives and usually an injury or two. The last time I worked with fresh coconuts I stabbed myself in the palm. This photo was taken several days after the injury; it doesn't look like much but it was very deep and it took three hours to stop the bleeding. Ouch! I now have a solution... a coconut grater! I saw them many times in India but stupidly forgot to buy one. I finally found one online and it has arrived!
Wow, I don't think I've ever bought a fresh coconut...I think I would remember that. Looks like too much work and too dangerous. I'll stick with bagged coconut.
