Sick...awww...

This is a photo of the love of my life, our swimming pool. During four months of the year I spend most of my time blissfully splashing around in the pool. I am always happiest in the water. The rest of the year I am really rather miserable. I think I am part fish. Anyway, I posted this photo to cheer myself up because I've been a little sick and feeling sorry for myslef the past few days. We had a roof leak which flooded part of our house and now we are working on doing major repairs. Since the repairs require the coordination of about six different repairmen, it is a big pain in the butt. Also, every time we have someone over we have to lock up all the pets and that causes them stress. The sick part comes in because I have severe allergies and asthma. The mildew, and possible mold from the flood is making me feel rather unwell. I am deathly allergic to mold and mildew. We are working on getting rid of the mold/mildew, but of course, everything takes time. In the meantime, I ordered an air purifier, and that should help. Part of the problem is that prices for repairs vary dramatically. We need to trim some trees as part of the roof replacement, and I've gotten quotes ranging from $950 to $400. The same with the roof-the quotes vary by thousands of dollars. And, then once I get the quotes I need to check references. Yuk! I am being extra careful picking contractors because the problem with our roof is that it was originally installed incorrectly (before we lived here). Now, I am very wary of bad workmen. The roof is so messed up we need a building permit to fix it. Some of the work, like painting, we are going to do ourselves. This just means more fumes to aggravate my allergies. Poor me.

Sorry for the rant! Usually I would go for a swim to cheer myself up, but it is now too cold out. Hopefully, we'll have all the repair work done in the next three weeks and then our house will be looking amazing. And, I won't be feeling so ill. Just in time for the holidays!

PS-As I've mentioned before, my dad rocks. He, and my step-mother, have been a big help with flood. Thank you so much!

  1. We are very happy to help. We also had some flooding problems ending up getting a new rug which led to cabinets being refaced, new guest room furniture and new living room furniture. Waiting for a new kitchen table and it looks like we remodeled without a major mess. You should take some before and after pictures, you will be amazed how different the house will look.
Hope all the work doesn't interfer with your visit to us.
    Love you

  2. Wow! I had heard bits and pieces of your troubles but did not know it was so intense. So sorry! I agree...take before and after photos. We'd love to see them.

  3. Thanks you two! That is a great idea to take photos. The repairs shouldn't delay my trip.
