Cinnamon Nutmeg Cookies

This recipe is from "Sweet Maria's Italian Cookie Tray" by Maria Bruscino Sanchez.

These cookies are so simple to make and they make the whole house smell amazing when they're baking. I love that they have cinnamon and nutmeg since nutmeg is one of my favorite spices. I used a pastry bag to pipe these onto the cookie sheet but you can just roll them into 1-inch balls and flatten the tops a bit.

1/2 pound softened butter
1 cup sugar
3 ounces softened cream cheese
1 egg yolk
2 1/2 cups flour

topping:
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Combine in a small bowl.

Preheat the oven to 375F.

In an electric mixer, cream the butter, sugar, and cream cheese. Add the egg yolk and mix until blended. On low speed, gradually add flour until well mixed.

Spoon the dough into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Place 1 1/2 inch rounds on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Sprinkle some topping over each cookie.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly browned.
